The descriptions found below are general details of the services I offer. Each client's care is individualized to their needs. The Standard Midwifery Package includes most of the services below as needed by the client in connection with care during preconception through postpartum. Additionally the services described in the Complementary Alternative Medicine category can be contracted individually if pregnancy services are not needed.

Midwifery


​Prenatal Care
Focusing on the basics of prenatal care: from establishing initial contact, taking a thorough client history, initiating ongoing prenatal care including both maternal and fetal evaluations, addressing common discomforts and physiological changes of pregnancy, and facilitating referral when indicated. With the midwifery model of care and an individualized approach, you will be scheduled with monthly appointments (generally lasting one hour) until 28 weeks gestation then bi-weekly until 37 weeks gestation followed by weekly appointments thereafter unless more appointments are otherwise needed.

Labor, Birth and the Immediate Postpartum
Support for you to give birth to your baby guided by the knowledge of the physiology of first, second and third stages of labor. What that support looks like will be determined by the needs of individual families and their preferences. Hypnobirthing, hydrotherapy, and other natural methods of labor support are available. (only available in Midwifery Package)
Postpartum Care
Instruction in understanding, preparing for and meeting the normal physiological and emotional changes that may occur postpartum period is the focus during the prenatal preparation. Time spent in the first few hours after birth as well as providing excellent care and record keeping in the subsequent postpartum care visits are provided. Breastfeeding support and screening for increased vigilance over the mother are hallmarks of midwifery postpartum care.

Well-Newborn Care
Assessment, age appropriate strategies for newborn care including evaluations of the anatomy and physiology of the newborn from birth through six weeks. This includes education and comprehensive support during the prenatal period, birth, and transition to home. Coordinated assessments of family health, including mental health; and access to coordinated supports and services for your baby takes place at the same postpartum visits all at home so you are not unduly burdened with excess appointments.

Home Birth

More and more families are choosing to stay home for their births. Imagine not having to decide when to leave during labor. Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to stress over what to pack in your hospital bag, or rush around the house throwing things together last-minute?! Picture climbing into your own bed with your new baby just minutes after giving birth. This is a reality and it can be your birthing experience!  More importantly with the right preparation and professional care, home births can be just as safe, or even safer, than hospital births.

Supplies including the use of a birth tub is included in the standard midwifery package.

Birthing Center

The Redding Midwifery Group Birthing Center was established in 2018 to provide a safe, middle-ground option for families desiring a birth in the out of hospital setting. This is also ideal for those who live further from the hospital and would like to be within town in case of transport.  The birth suite is fully equipped with options for water birth, free movement throughout labor, showering, and intermittent fetal monitoring.  I have privileges to attend births at this facility.  The birthing center has a waiting area for family and friends, and the kitchen is fully equipped for you to bring food for yourselves and your birth team.  For more information or to schedule a tour request an appointment with the button below.  (Birth Center Fees are separate from the Standard Midwifery package.)

Complementary Alternative Medicine

Well Woman Care
Supporting the basic health of women across the lifespan, including the normal reproductive cycle, dysfunctions of menstruation, over-the-counter contraceptive devices or fertility awareness instruction (see topic below) and information as to their effectiveness, sexually transmitted infections, blood tests, well-woman pelvic examination, and PAP smears. Also information pertaining to the female sexual response and various mental and emotional aspects of wellness and health.

Childbirth Education
Out of hospital childbirth classes. Including understanding the physiologic changes the body undergoes to give birth, the range of possible emotional responses to the sensations and fluctuating hormone levels and the preparations and practices that can make childbirth a positive empowering experience.

Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding can be a tremendous bonding experience, and the health benefits are significant, as breast milk is custom designed to meet the specific needs of your baby at each stage of development. While breastfeeding is natural, it is also a learned skill, and families often have questions about the process. Our two-hour Breastfeeding Class, offered monthly, strives to prepare families for their newborn’s arrival by addressing common concerns and teaching techniques to make breastfeeding easier. After their birth, many families have questions and concerns regarding breastfeeding. Breastfeeding support is available over the phone 24/7. Visits are also available for hands on support.

Fertility Awareness
Fertility awareness (also called natural family planning or rhythm method) is a way to predict fertile and infertile times in your cycle. FAM is based on body signs, which change during each menstrual cycle in response to the hormones that cause ovulation (the release of an egg). Fertility awareness-based methods offer the advantages of being safe and inexpensive. For some people, religious convictions make fertility awareness-based methods the only acceptable method of birth control. It is strongly recommended that training from a qualified health care provider be obtained to use these methods effectively.
Wellness Coaching
Helping you to find the motivation and tools to get to your physical and emotional health goals. Those goals might include losing a few pounds, eating better, quitting smoking, or lowering stress levels. Unlike a nutritionist or physical therapist, who makes specific diet and exercise suggestions, a wellness coach will help you make better general choices that fit your lifestyle. There are many reasons you might consider this service, for instance, you might consider looking for one if you need some guidance on moving forward planning your family, don't have an acceptable work-life balance, have a lot of stress or you aren't as healthy as you'd like to be.

​Aromatherapy
This service offers you a provider who possess an in-depth understanding of the therapeutic uses, active constituents, methods of administration, and cautions and contraindications for essential oils based upon anatomy and physiology of the related body systems, chemical functional groups and pharmacological actions of essential oils; not sales materials.

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is used to treat many conditions, such as allergies, asthma, eczema, premenstrual syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine, menopausal symptoms, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, and cancer, among others. It is best to take herbal supplements under the guidance of a trained provider.

Holistic Nutrition
I offer a complete analysis of a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual health and offer a roadmap to recovery based on sound nutritional principles. I usually recommend natural or organic foods (not required) and herbal supplements (not a sales pitch for a specific company) that support the body’s normal detoxification functions. These protocols help the body to correct chemical and hormonal imbalances that is needed to improve overall health.
